Patient Services

AFC Urgent Care Bedford offers a variety of patient services including preventative care and treatment for injuries and illnesses

Influenza (the flu) is a serious illness that affects millions of Americans every year.  To prevent catching the flu, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone six months and older to get a flu shot. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. An annual flu shot will help keep you and your loved ones safe every year. It also works to prevent those around you from getting sick.

Next time the flu season comes around, be sure to get your flu shot at AFC Urgent Care Bedford!  Our urgent care center administers seasonal flu shots seven days a week, no appointment necessary!

How does the flu shot protect me during flu season?

The flu shot is an annual vaccination that allows patients to build immunity to the latest strain of influenza. Every year, the flu adapts and changes which means that any older flu vaccine does not protect patients against more modern strains.

The antibodies begin to work two weeks after vaccination. They will continue to work for about 6 months, keeping you and others safe for the duration of flu season.

Symptoms of the flu

Receiving a seasonal flu shot can prevent or lessen flu-like symptoms including:

  • Cough
  • Congestion
  • Runny Nose
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle Soreness
  • Fever

Some cases of the flu can have very severe symptoms, and may require hospitalization. Getting a flu shot can help keep others safe who are considering high risk.
